‘After twenty years’ is a story of two men who were chums. One of them was Jimmy and the other was Bob who had met each other twenty years ago in front of a restaurant and then parted away with the promise that they would meet again twenty years later at the same place and at the same time. The two friends kept their promise. Bob and Jimmy met but the former did not identify the latter who was in a police uniform. But Jimmy recognised him when he lit the cigar. Bob was being wanted in Chicago. There was a criminal proceeding framed against him with the police of Chicago. Jimmy recognised him but could not take him under custody in his own hand. So he sent a plain clothed cap to arrest him.

The short story contains all the events after twenty years. Though the title is fitted enough with the relevant appropriateness. On the other hand the title is direet, suggestive and simple in nature.
