MONEY IS A GOOD SERVANT BUT A BAD MASTER : Money is like electricity. It does everything for you if you have full control over the switches. A little carelessness will electrocute you.
In the same way, money is a great blessing if properly handled, but if you misuse it you are inviting trouble for yourself. It is the too much desire or temptations of money that drives a man to commit thefts, even murders.
The same hankering after money is responsible for profiteering, black marketing and dishonesty of all kinds. The evil of gambling, speculation, cut-throat competition etc is all to be attributed to people’s excessive love of money.
But there is the other side of the picture too. With the money we can do constructive and nation-building work. It can be utilised in providing comforts to the people at large and improving the lot of the down-trodden in particular.
So money is a double-edged potential weapon which may be used for constructive or destructive ends. It is injurious for a man if it is allowed to override him.
If a man becomes too much money-minded, he loses his mental balance. Thus money is a good servant, but a bad master.
