Essay on 'Aids: The Most Fatal Of Diseases'
AIDS is an incurable diseasse. It has spread very rapidly and it is feared that the number of AIDS patients is about 4 crores all over the globe. Even India is not spared from its attack. AIDS is caused by a virus named HIV (Human Immuno Deficiency Virus). HIV destroys the blood cells which fight the bacterial virus. In such a condition the body is totally defenceless against all kinds of infection.

HIV is transmitted from one human body to another through blood, saliva, semen, secretions from the vagina etc. An attack of AIDS begins usually with a brief illness with high fever and swollen glands. The patient recovers in two or three weeks and feels fine until he again feels sick. It is now that his lymph nodes are highly infected and his white blood cell count is very high and red blood cellcount very poor. Patients succumb within two years and die without any effective treatment. No vaccine, no medicine has yet been prepared though thorough research is going on throughout the world for its prevention and cure.

AIDS is detected by ELISA Method or Western Blot Method which is very expensive. Prevention is the only way to fight against this dreadful disease. And for this, some measures should be taken such as-reckless sexual contacts should be avoided, transfusion of blood infected with HIV positive should not be done, and a diseased lady should not be allowed to bear a child etc.

AIDS poses a grave challenge to medical science as till now man is hopelessly defenceless against it. Hence public awareness is the pressing need by arranging seminars, etc. The press and the TV channels should also come forward for this purpose.
